When you're ready to have guides automatically created and launched when new users match the targeting criteria, you'll want to set that guide to "auto-launch".

Targeting guides

  • Guides can be targeted to all or some accounts and users. You can use any attributes that are passed into Bento (i.e. createdAt, role, etc).

  • You can see what attributes are passed in by selecting “some accounts” or “some users” and clicking into the attribute dropdown.

  • To add new attributes, ask an engineer to pass in additional attributes, or use an integration like Segment

  • After defining the attributes on a user, click Next in order to save.

Managing the order of guides launched to a user

  • Bento always shows you all guides that are LIVE as well as the template you are editing. You can drag them into the order that makes most sense.

  • No worries if each guide is targeting a different user-type. You can still create an order so in case a user matches multiple guides, we’ll make sure they get the right one first.

💡 Tips & tricks for guides that are auto-launched

  • You can always pause auto-launching by clicking “Stop launching" in the top right of the guide editor

    • This will only stop new users from getting the guide, existing user will get the guide

    • If you want to delete a guide for a certain customer, head to their account in Bento and manually delete the guide from their account

    • If you want the guide to delete for users who don't meet the targeting rules anymore, it will by default, we call this guide obsoletion.

    • You can always delete or archive the guide for all users as well, from the guide library

Removing launch guides from users

If a user has a guide and you want them to be “done with it”, you can:

  • Stop the guide. This will prevent it from launching to any NEW users

  • Or, for an account guide, you can complete steps on behalf of that customer. Just click into the Customer, find the relevant Guide, and click the checkboxes related to the steps that are intended to be completed.

  • Change the targeting rules to explicitly exclude a certain customer

  • Remove the guide from all customers (this is like archiving the guide, it will persist the data but to re-launch you will need to duplicate the guide)

  • Delete the guide from all customers (this is permanent, removes all data, and is irreversible)
